Overview

Established in 2019, RAWSA brings together human rights organizations, feminist activists, physicians, researchers, journalists, lawyers, and media professionals for a regional advocacy to create transformation in the policies and laws as well as the public opinion related to gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and climate justice. We strive to empower women through education and awareness and to inform the population on intersection between gender and climate change as well as significance of SRHR and the impact of the lack of access to services and facilities on women.
RAWSA advocates for gender equality, empowered family planning, and body autonomy and integrity. We believe that all women have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies as well as access safe abortion and all SRHR without prosecution, shame, and/or discrimination.

Purpose of Assignment

To develop the first Safe Abortion Defenders’guide in the Middle East and North Africa. The guide will be a road map for safe abortion and SRHR advocators and activists in Egypt specifically, and the region more generally, to develop evidence-based programs for stronger advocacies and seek change in specific policies. It will offer advocacy and campaigning techniques and tools to create transformation in the policies, programmes, and services of SRHR and safe abortion according to international standards.
This guide is crucial to addressing women’s need for safe abortion in the MENA region. It will support the regional movement to policies that are focus on respecting, protecting, and fulfilling women’s rights and their right to health, to accessible and comprehensive SRHR information and services, as well as the particular needs of poor women, adolescents, rape survivors, and people living with HIV. An enabling regulatory and policy environment is needed to ensure that every woman who is legally eligible has ready access to safe abortion care (during and post abortion included).
